Unlike a drawing, an illustration fulfils a purpose in terms of communication: to embellish a book; to make a poster look striking; or to transform the perceived value of a simple concept.
In the specific case of this assignment, it was to portray the concept of motherhood. It was important to reflect how a woman symbolises the primary correlation between bonding with the child and her body and intimate, safe haven and to extol these values in a minimal and complex illustration.
